Shandu's Funeral plans

If the deceased is at home, please contact us immediately . Do not contact other funeral parlours because they will charge, and the family will also be responsible for the cost of the removal and storage of the body.

You must report the death to our offices within 6 months. We will send you an SMS confirming that we have received your claim.

How do I submit my claim form? You need to submit the completed claim form with supporting documents at one of our branches. Find your closest Shandu's Funerals branch .

Within 48 hours of receiving your claim, Shandu's will inform the claimant of our decision:
Approved Claim: Granted after thorough evaluation confirms all criteria are met.
Declined Claim: Denied due to unmet criteria, such as missed payments or ongoing waiting periods.

Natural Death Claim Requirements:*
- Certified copies of deceased's and main member's ID or deceased's birth certificate.
- Official death certificate from the Department of Home Affairs.
- BI 1663 form completed by the certifying doctor.
- Confirmation of full-time student status for deceased aged 22-26 (if applicable).
- For stillbirths: Mother’s ID, hospital’s unabridged death certificate, notice of stillbirth, doctor's confirmation letter.

*Unnatural Death Claim Requirements:*
- Same ID and death certificate requirements as natural death.
- Notification of Death Form (BI 1663/DHA-1663 or BI1680/DHA 1680).
- SAPS report and accident/incident report with case number.

All benefits are payable to the policyholder:
✓ If the policyholder is the deceased, then the benefit is payable to the beneficiary.
✓ If the policy holder does not nominate a beneficiary, the benefit will be paid to: The Spouse of the policy holder who is covered under the umbrella policy; or The legal guardian of the dependent child of the policy holder who is covered under Umbrella policy.
✓ If SDM cannot trace the Assured Lives in clause the benefit will be paid to the Estate of the policy holder.
